About Compress Image
Most compressors make you guess with a quality slider, then check the size, then try again. Slimfile works the other way round. You say how big the file may be, and it finds the best-looking version that fits.
It does this by saving your image many times inside your browser, testing the size each time. Quality comes down first, because small quality changes are hard to see. Only if that is not enough does it reduce the width and height.
Need to shrink a whole folder? Choose "All files together" and set one total, such as 1 GB. Slimfile shares that space across your photos by size, and gives you everything in one ZIP file.
Questions
Will my image be exactly the size I typed?
It will be at or just under your target, usually within a few percent. It is never over, because most upload forms reject files above their limit.
Can I really use GB as a target?
Yes. GB targets are most useful with "All files together", for example shrinking 5 GB of holiday photos to 1 GB. A single image is rarely that large.
Why did my PNG turn into a JPG or WebP?
PNG files cannot trade quality for size, so they stay large. Automatic mode picks JPG, or WebP when the image has see-through areas. You can still choose PNG under "Save as", but the image will get smaller in pixels instead.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. The work happens in your browser on your own device. You can even turn off your internet after the page loads and it will still work.
Does this remove photo location data?
Yes, for images that are re-saved. The hidden camera and location details are not carried over. A file left as it is, because it was already under your target, keeps its details.
