About Compare Images

Numbers do not tell you how a compressed image looks. The honest test is to look at both versions together. Slimfile lays one image over the other, and a slider lets you uncover each one in the same place.

You also get the file size and pixel size of each image, plus a "Looks alike" score. A score near 100% means that the two images are nearly the same to the eye.

Questions

What does the "Looks alike" score mean?

It compares the colours of both images at a small sample size and reports how close they are on average. It is a quick guide, not a scientific measurement.

Can I compare images of different sizes?

Yes. The second image is stretched to fit the first one for viewing, so a different shape may look distorted.

What should I look at closely?

Check faces, small text and smooth areas such as sky. Those are where compression shows first.
