About Resize Image

Some websites ask for an image of a set size, such as 600 × 600 pixels for a profile picture. Resizing changes those pixel measurements, while compressing changes the file size. They are related, but not the same.

Slimfile shows the current size of your image, then lets you type a new width or height. With "Keep shape" on, the other number updates by itself so your picture does not look stretched.

Questions

Will making an image bigger improve it?

No. Enlarging only spreads the same detail over more pixels, so it will look softer. Start from the largest original you have.

What does "Keep shape" do?

It keeps the same proportions, so faces and objects do not look squashed. Turn it off only when you need an exact shape; the crop tool is often a better choice.

Should I resize or compress?

Follow what the website asks for. If it gives pixels, resize. If it gives KB or MB, compress. If it gives both, resize first and then compress.
